Fortrend’s account pays you interest on your cash balances* based on prevailing exchange rates. As our clearing firm is US-based, dividends paid on non-US listed shares are converted to US dollars and maintained in your US dollar cash balance, which will earn a market rate of interest. There is no requirement to distribute cash out of your account.
In addition, you may be able to earn even higher rates of return by investing in Money Market Funds. Fortrend offers a wide variety of Money Market Funds for our customers and, unlike Australia, we offer a fully integrated offshore stock broking account that maintains custody of your Money Market Funds. So when you sell your US shares the proceeds can be automatically swept into your Money Market Fund and you may be eligible to earn interest.
